Akoesticum Ede supplied with soundproof fire doors
The planning class of the historic Friso Barracks in Ede was changed to house the Akoesticum, a new institute for the performing arts. Alara-Lukagro was entrusted with supplying the soundproof fire doors.
Design that respects history
The design was produced and the façade reconstructed using historic photographic material of the Friso Barracks. The entry doors consist of wooden panel doors and the original colours of the doors, window frames and walls were restored. The project included the restoration, renovation, improved sustainability and redesign of the monumental barracks to create the Akoesticum. The building now houses a concert hall, rehearsal rooms, office space, a hotel and a catering establishment.

Concert hall doors
Hazenberg Bouw awarded the contract to produce and install the soundproof fire doors to Alara-Lukagro. They were installed in the Akoesticum’s central concert hall, among others. A number of the internal doors have an extremely high soundproof value of Rw 56 dB(A).
Opened by King Willem-Alexander
King Willem-Alexander attended the official opening of the Akoesticum, which took place in January 2015. The concert hall with its soundproof doors served as the location for the opening. The King called the centre ‘The Papendal for the performing arts.’
Special characteristics
The project was nominated for the NRP Golden Phoenix Awards. This award represents the ultimate prize for promoting and inspiring the sustainable use of the existing environment.
