Sound barrier walls for Manu-Pekka Dredger
Boskalis has commissioned Alara-Lukagro to supply sound barrier walls for a Manu-Pekka (MP40) dredger with Backhoe. The Dredger was deployed for dredging and reclamation activities in the port of Peterhead (UK).

Dredging and reclamation works at Port of Peterhead (UK)
The project included dredging, reclamation, quay construction and breakwater extension works for Peterhead Smith Embankment Development. In the north of Port of Peterhead, at Smith Embankment, sheltered berths have been created for ships with a length of 20 to 160 meters.
Most of the dredged material was placed on land to creat a protected section of the Smith Embankment. To protect the new quay, a 100 m long rubble mound was constructed to extend the existing Albert Quay breakwater. The rock placement was carried out by a Manu-Pekka (MP40) equipped with a special rock grapple (Backhoe).
Sound barrier walls
Boskalis wanted to carry out the project in a shorter timeframe. In collaboration with Alara-Lukagro, the possibilities that could make this possible were therefore investigated. The choice was made to invest in sound barrier walls that ensured that the Backhoe had a lower sound emission. This allowed Boskalis to work longer per day, within the applicable guidelines, without causing noise disturbance.
Collaboration in realization
It was decided to collaborate at which Boskalis would build-up the construction in-house with advice of Alara-Lukagro. Alara Lukagro presented the solutions and selected and supplied the right type of sound panel. Boskalis installed the walls in Peterhead (UK) on the MP40 Backhoe and verified the working by noise measurements.
