Sound attenuation and filtration system for a new Antarctic Supply Research Vessel
Alara-Lukagro is awarded the contract for the design, production and delivery of a complete sound attenuation and filtration system for a new Antarctic Supply Research Vessel for the Australian Antarctic Division, which is built by Damen Shipyards Group.

High sound insulation
We provide the sound attenuation and filtration system for the combustion air inlet of all four generators. Only one silencer takes care of the attenuation of two generator sets. It assures enough sound attenuation and limits the pressure loss to a minimum. Each silencer reduces the sound power level of 141 dB(A) per diesel generator to a sound pressure level on the deck of 72 dB(A), measured at 3 meter distance from the intake grating of the air intake room. Next to sound attenuation the delivery comprises the air filtration complete with a pressure monitor system in order to facilitate easy maintenance.
The Antarctic
The vessel will be used for expeditions to the Antarctic and is therefore made with an icebreaking system. It is designed to conduct research activities with 500 square meters on-board laboratory and office facilities. Besides that, the ship also meets the standards of the DNV Silent Class notation. The vessel will be 156 metres in length, with a beam of 25.6 metres. It is scheduled for completion in April 2020.
