Infrastructure project A1 Apeldoorn – Azelo

In the period 2018 – 2021, Heijmans will expand more than 40 kilometers of highway on behalf of Rijkswaterstaat. This concerns the section of the A1 in both directions between Apeldoorn and Azelo. In addition to the road surface, Heijmans is also adapting the viaducts, bridges and connecting roads. The A1 is an important connection between economic areas inland and abroad. A smooth traffic flow on this highway is therefore important.

The A1 is situated in the unique Salland landscape. Connecting the road to the landscape was therefore an important contract requirement between Heijmans and Rijkswaterstaat. The road user will soon have a uniform road experience between Apeldoorn and Germany. This recognizable look and feel is enhanced with, among other things, noise barriers, widened viaducts and local plants. Screen doors

The Emergency exit doors will be installed in 3 places in the noise barrier walls. All doors have a free passage from the road side to the residential side, so that people who use the highway can always flee in case of calamities. On the residential side, the door leaf is only equipped with a doorknob so that from this side the door can only be opened with a key and unauthorized persons cannot walk onto the highway. In addition, to prevent the doors from remaining open, the doors are also fitted with a closer system.
