Cylindrical sound insulating doors
Skippers of barges and cruise ships normally use their own generator at the mooring to provide in their power supply. In the port of Dordrecht (The Netherlands) this caused noise pollution to the environment and surrounding houses.
Controling the noise
In order to limit the noise pollution, three sound insulating transformer stations were placed at the Wantijkade, Merwekade and Buiten Walevest, which serve as a power supply. Each of the concrete pillars, with a diameter of approximately 2.300 mm, have three cylindrical doors and one hood, constructed by Alara-Lukagro from stainless-steel 1.4301. For the ventilation of the transformers, transformer louvers are placed within the doors and hoods. The doors and hoods are finished by Alara-Lukagro with a multiple-layer 2-component coating RAL9007 metallic. The “monumental” pillars, popularly called ‘peppercans’, retain the artistic character of the city centre.
