Burglar-proof and fire resistant doors for NATO headquarters Brussels

The construction of the new headquarters of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), executed by a consortium led by contractor BAM, took over 5 years to complete. The building houses approximately 4,500 employees, deputies and military personnel and accommodates the 28 NATO member states. The property covers a total area of 251,000 sqm, divided into 8 large wings, four smaller wings and various facilities such as a conference center and sports facilities.

Safe and sustainable building

Given the actual function of the building, a highly secure, impressive, comfortable, functional and ultra-modern building has been designed. The new headquarters are also energy efficient and can last for generations. The designers have also paid great attention to automation of security processes; maximum safety can be provided, while the discomfort of users is minimized as much as possible. In addition, fire safety plays an important role.

Special doors with high security

BAM Alliance awarded the contract for the engineering, production and installation of 650 special doors for the NATO headquarters, to Alara-Lukagro. To meet the high demands for burglary proof and fire resistant doors, Alara-Lukagro designed special doors which were successfully tested by independent bodies. Also, the working methods of Alara-Lukagro complied with the strict safety regulations- and procedures that were set for the construction of this political and administrative centre.
