Acoustic screen reduces noise emissions from factory
DOC Kaas produces a wide assortment of cheese. The factory in Hoogeveen (The Netherlands) exceeded the standard for noise emissions due to the cooling installations located on the roof. An acoustic screen offered the solution to this problem.

Properties of the solution
Alara-Lukagro, commissioned by Cofely Noord, submitted a proposal for the solutions. It was approved and resulted in the following solutions:
- Sound attenuation of the cooling installations achieved with acoustic screens
- Sound attenuation of the roof ventilators and evaporator using special air outlets
- Sound attenuation of the compressor room’s air inlet using acoustic louvres
Factory remains open as a result of noise emission reductions
Since the mid 1980s, the old factory on Alteveerstraat in Hoogeveen (The Netherlands) has produced a capacity of 45,000 tonnes of cheese. In consultation with the municipality and province, it is allowed to remain open until 2022. This was on the condition that DOC Kaas take additional measures to further reduce noise emissions to alleviate noise nuisance to local residents.
Resolving noise issues
Cofely Noord worked with DOC Kaas to resolve the noise issues. Cofely Noord approached Alara-Lukagro seeking a suitable solution.
First, roof ventilators, the evaporator and the compressor room’s air inlet were tackled. Afterwards the noise produced by the cooling tables was resolved.

Total solution
Cofely Noord awarded the contract on behalf of DOC Kaas to Alara-Lukagro to supply the measures as a complete product. Alara-Lukagro was responsible for noise measurements, measuring, engineering, production, in-house coating and installing the acoustic screen, acoustic louvres and air outlets.
