The Beursschouwburg dates back to 1885 and some of the spaces were in such a bad condition that they weren’t accessible. The dark spaces are removed to create a large and light central hal. To generate an inherent and contemporary appeal several materials are used. For example, the walls are covered with shotcrete and the stairs are covered with bright red sprayed polyurethane.
Noise requirements covered
To avoid noise pollution between cafe and the central hal, acoustic doors with attenuation values of 47 dB were required. Alara-Lukagro enginated and produced the acoustic doors for the central hal and the cafe. One of the doors is executed with glass. One of the doors is executed with a window. After noise measurements the doors proved to cover the noise requirements.
