Acoustic air inlet for crane ship's engine room
The silencers at the engine room’s air inlet on a crane ship were extremely outdated. Alara-Lukagro designed, produced and delivered new silencers for the crane ship in close collaboration with Heinen & Hopman.
Air inlet for engine room
The silencers for the air inlet in an engine room on a crane ship from 1984 were extremely outdated. The maximum permitted noise levels were being exceeded, which meant the installation no longer complied with current laws and regulations.
Heinen & Hopman is an HVAC specialist in the offshore and maritime sector (for more information visit Heinen & Hopman). Heinen & Hopman involved Alara-Lukagro in the project to design new silencers for the air inlet.
New silencers
The customer’s wish was for the new silencers to be as compatible as possible with the existing situation. However, limited information was available about the existing situation. Nevertheless, Alara-Lukagro, in close collaboration with Heinen & Hopman, designed new silencers that were fully compatible, preventing the need for radical modifications on board.
Customisation
Properties
Silencers for the engine room’s air inlet were designed as follows:
-
Designed and produced to the customer’s exact specifications
-
Material: stainless steel (316L)
-
Given an offshore wet paint coating with a thickness of 340 µm
-
Splitters that are absorbent on both sides, fitted with a 316L stainless steel perforated plate.
-
Minimum pressure loss due to aerodynamic flow profiles.
-
The silencers were fitted with hoisting lugs for fast assembly.
Reduced noise level
These new silencers reduced the noise level around the engine room’s air inlet to such an extent that it was far below the maximum permitted noise level. The customer was fully satisfied with this result.
